http://www.ted.com The world’s population will grow to 9 billion over the next 50 years — and only by raising the living standards of the poorest can we check population growth. This is the paradoxical answer that Hans Rosling unveils at TED@Cannes using colorful new data display technology (you’ll see).

I'm sorry but we need a population revolution for the world to truly change for the better. We need to educate people in third world countries how not to have children. If we can't get the world to go back to 5 billion in 43 years were definetely doomed to parish under the heat of the sun. Our pollution and over population will destroy the world.
U LOOK SO GERMAN
Sounds to me like 3rd worlders are too stupid to not have kids they cant afford to feed. And rich spoiled 1st worlders are too self centered and materialistic to have enough kids to sustain their population.
Isn't this the same as all his other talks?
iam not betting on 9 billion people. 7 billion cant stand each other, how will 9 billion, live in peace????
I'm betting population growth will be checked by massive die-offs that will likely hit shortly before we totally run out of usable oil in 50 or so years. .
omg thank you! FInally someone saying this
Fascinating

The key take home is, poverty doesn't stagger population numbers, it encourages procreation. A poor family looks for having a child who can farm and work to bring food and resources to the family. Whereas a more successful and affluent society understands that reproduction is expensive to maintain, and does not have more than a set amount of children. With lack of education comes ignorance which further increases population.
The key to sustainable population growth is to empower women yes,
education work, etc. This may work in Asia and Latin America, but
but not in the Afroo-Islamic World. Africa's population alone could reach
six billion some time this century if fertillity rates do not fall. Check
Scientific American Febuary edition. This video by Rosling talked
about washing machines, indeed Ted Talk Videos can involve
some brain washing for the audience
Buen video, lo recomiendo a tdos
He talks just like any good economist doesn't he, mentions the new buzz words like, sustainability, climate change, things will level out when the world shares out its energy and raw materials evenly, then in only one generation sharing will become the new normal. However western fecundity is already 75% impotent, this does not happen naturall so quickly, here is a future problem for the west, and why Thatcher opened the gates for immagration in the 70's, this she confirmed at a lecture in 90 at massey hall Canada, when she said we needed more people coming into britain to pay our national debt. For those really interested, read the Book, Impact of science upon society.

HDi continues to rise while TFR continues to fall. This is true for every continent; including Africa. In fact, world TFR is now just above replacement levels.
